Dark Goddesses

Medusa II: She has more to say…

Last month in Dark Goddesses Collective we began to connect to Medusa. It was clear early on that she had so much to say, reveal, and show us. While we love to show ways to connect with the faces of the Goddess, we can not rush the message. Whether it was Mercury retrograde or simply that she had more interesting things to share with us, we were not going to wrap up May with an Anthology when she was clearly not finished speaking.

The Month of June 2022

Our Theme: Energy in Motion

This month we are looking at energy in motion with an emphasis on experiencing it and effective channeling.

Our Goddess: Medusa

We are still connecting and learning from this Gorgon Goddess and her origins. She wants to show us a deeper magic and how to put these skills to use in our lives. There is so much knowledge she is willing to share but refuses to be limited by something like our idea of ‘time’. Buckle up Witches!

Some of what we have planned:

  • The Poppet
  • The Gorgon Shield Divination
  • Energy in Motion: Effective Channeling Ritual
  • A Spitfire Corner
  • An update on our Private Network

As the month progresses, other work may present itself. If you need to make another Black Sacred Candle, all of the information can be found here.

Please share your stories with us of working with Medusa. Your understanding of her. Anything that feels like it is helping you to stand stronger in your own sovereignty. We are a community and growing together is incredibly important. Your experience may be the missing piece of another’s journey. Or may inspire them to look at things a different way.

Tiamat: Primordial Initiations

This month in Dark Goddesses Collective we welcome in Tiamat. Tiamat is a Primordial Goddess of the Sea, the waters of life that speak to the transformative powers of becoming and remembering. Taking into consideration the ecology of her time, we can connect deeply to the energy of initiations in the darkness and the role of the dragon or serpent.

The Month of April

Our Theme: Initiations of Creation

This month we are connecting to the energy of creating, of becoming, and of remembering (not just thought, but the putting back together, the ‘re-membering’ of self in our stories and histories).

Our Goddess: Tiamat

There are many historical references and stories surrounding Tiamat and her power. As many of us have suspected, in many of the references she was villainized. Connecting with her will reveal her power in truth, but the search and connection with Tiamat is a lot like the search for our own truth (and our ability to connect with it). It can be challenging. Despite this, the lessons and the messages each of us receive from her are initiations into the knowing and our abilities to perceive become the catalysts for stepping into who we are.

Calling to Cerridwen: January 2022 Black Sacred Candle

Cerridwen, Keeper of the Cauldron of Rebirth, is a Chthonic and shapeshifting Goddess from the Celtic/Welsh regions. She has arrived in Dark Goddesses Collective to allow us entry into her Cauldron, full of inspiration, regeneration, and the deepest knowing that she can bestow upon us this month. We will be using Ivy’s new incense, Cerridwen’s Cauldron Incense, as the correspondences for this month’s Black Sacred Candle.

Never created a Black Sacred Candle? We have you covered! Learn how in this free three-part series.

Incense and infographic created by Ivy Laine

Correspondences

  • Oak (I used Oak Essence)
  • Mugwort
  • Juniper (or other Evergreen)
  • Sage
  • Myrrh
  • Personal Oil (or Olive Oil) to tie us to it

Oak is truly a sacred tree. In stories, it is said to be a part of the triad that created our word “oath”, as in Oak, Ash, and Thorn (Hawthorn). We are asking at the edge of her cauldron, to fulfill our oaths to self, the natural requirement to transformation and transcendence.

In addition to being a sacred tree to Cerridwen, I chose to use the essence form of Oak to call to the transformation that Cerridwen can provide.

An essence is what we are requesting to be reduced to once we enter from this liminal space of being at the edge. We use the evergreen or Juniper as the ability to remain green or retain the fire element, a spark of soul, from which we rebuild. And of course, the amazing cleansing, banishing, protecting (and world-walking) trio that are Sage, Mugwort, and Myrrh.

Additional Items for creating your BSC:

  • Aluminum foil (we will be using the oven to get the candle warm so items will stick)
  • Non-stick parchment paper

Directions

  1. Take a piece of aluminum foil (large enough to wrap your candle in) and place it on your workspace.
  2. Take a piece of non-stick parchment paper (about the same size as your aluminum foil) and place it on top of the aluminum foil. Trick: Fold the edges of the aluminum foil over the top of the edges of the parchment paper to keep it from rolling!
  3. Preheat oven to 200 degrees.
  4. Anoint your candle with your chosen oil.
  5. Lightly coat your candle with the Cerridwen’s Cauldron Incense you created. Caution: Please make sure there are no large chunks of plant material as these can be dangerous or ‘pop’ during candle burning. As always, please abide by all fire safety rules.
  6. Place your candle onto the parchment/aluminum foil, wrap your candle, and place in the oven.
  7. DO NOT LEAVE THE KITCHEN (lesson learned the hard way), turn your candle every 2 minutes (this took me about 12 minutes total).

Tip: Use markers to add additional intention to your candle as you see fit, you can see mine has a cauldron with a flame rising from it. It is the fire of knowledge and of inspiration.
